This week, we share one of the most recent articles on Balfron Tower by The Modern House where they talk to Ab Rogers about the thought-process behind the interior design in the scheme. We also introduce one of our favourite east London creatives and how residents of The Makers and The Otto will get a slice of the local community, plus we talk about the latest exhibition in The Makers marketing Suite at the end of November.

Chrom.Art at The Makers

Having successfully launched the marketing suite at The Makers in Shoreditch, we are thrilled for it to host an Arty-tecture exhibition which has been curated by Chrom.Art.
This London-based enterprise is exactly what The Makers is all about and has been inspired by - the local creative community. They are a volunteer run company whose aim is to support and promote undiscovered artists and encourage the community to become more invested in creativity.

From 21st-23rd November, you will be able to immerse yourself in how architecture and construction can be conveyed through various artistic platforms and meet the artistic masterminds from behind the scenes. Artists will include Aldo Cupido, KV Duong and Ernesto Romano, just to name a few.

To top it all off, there will be a selection of drinks and canapés, plus you can also get an exclusive peak at the latest show apartment in the development which has been designed in collaboration with Lema and it is one that we are very excited to share.

Lazy Eye Ceramics

Sometimes there is nothing better, or more thoughtful, than a homemade gift. The act of somebody putting time and care into making a one-of-a-kind piece that is bespoke for you. Over the past few years, the resurgence of all things clay has been undoubtable and east London-based Skye Corewijn has been at the forefront of it all.

What started out as a hobby for Skye has now turned into a full career, with her ceramics featured in some of London’s most well-established restaurants, with The Clove Club, Sager + Wilde and Bao included in her impressive list of customers.

Having been featured in publications such as The Guardian and Foodism, Skye (otherwise know as Lazy Eye Ceramics) has built quite a reputation amongst the creative community and is passionate that each of her pieces are created with slight differences so that each of her makings are individual, perfectly imperfect and all the more special. One of our passions is to celebrate local creatives such as Skye, which is why we have joined forces to create charming, ceramic coffee cups to welcome new residents at our developments in Hackney, The Makers and The Otto. What a perfect way to feel connected to the local community and celebrate the creativity that lives in the neighbourhood!

Ab Rogers on Balfron Tower

Balfron Tower is having a moment in the spotlight right now and we are so proud of its reception. One of our current favourite articles is Ab Rogers talking about sensitive architecture and community-focused design with The Modern House – here’s a taster:

“It has been about peeling back all the layers, removing anything that’s unnecessary and then celebrating what you’re left with. It’s really going back to Goldfinger’s bones, removing the stud walls, creating this dual aspect and then creating quite a calm interior which is about texture and functions.

“We tried to capture light from the corridor, so you have light filtering in from both sides and then creating a palette of sympathetic colours that we believe Goldfinger would have had enjoyed, based on us looking not just at Balfron and Trellick towers, but also at Willow Road, and his Haggerston School. In the corridors we completely restored all the original tiles, working with Johnson to get a very close match right the way through”
