The artistic spotlight this week is on Parisian illustrator, Araki Koman! Plus, we talk about the new app that every art lover should have and how Hackney is ruling the roost when it comes to London's property market.

Today's Spotlight: Araki Koman

We’ve talked about graffiti and we have covered fine art, so today the spotlight is on the illustrations by Araki Koman. It’s obvious from her appearance that she is from Paris – chic, poised and effortless. At just 30, Araki has lived and travelled internationally, from the UK to Japan and many places in between.

Her travels, along with photography and film, have played a great part in the illustrations that she produces. For the most part, she utilises a neutral black and white colour palette, but even though her artwork looks clean, concise and simple, there is so much more depth and thought between the lines. Araki wants her illustrations to encourage people that there is more to a person that what meets the eye and our appearance shouldn’t define who we are!

The image above is just one example of the character and charisma that exudes from Araki’s work – taken from a collection of images where she illustrates a few of the simple pleasures she enjoys in her daily life.

Before you do anything else, go and follow her of Instagram and get truly inspired!

Move Aside Shazam!

Shazam is old news, say hello to its creative counterpart – Smartify. In October this year, the Royal Academy of Arts held the launch of this new app that lets users scan pieces of artwork to reveal more information behind it.

Smartify has already taken off big time, with renowned venues, such as London’s National Gallery and New York’s The Met already using it. Labelled as the Shazam of the art world, Smartify can tell you all the information you need to know about the artist behind a masterpiece, and even gives you an insight into various interviews that have happened with the artist. So now, instead of mindlessly traipsing around a gallery without a clue, or unenthusiastically listening to an audio guide, you can walk around at your own leisurely pace and scan the artwork as you please with Smartify.

Your days of being an art noob are over, it’s your time to be a connoisseur.

Hackney is Ruling London's Property Market

I don’t know about you, but all this negative talk about London’s property market is making everything just so gloomy. House prices are dropping, we get it.
I thought it would be nice to change the record and put a positive spin on things for a change, so instead of going on about falling house prices, let’s talk about the impressive climb of Hackney house prices. Did you know that this east London borough has risen by over 700% over the past two decades?! This is an exceptionally high percentage and has resulted in Hackney outperforming the likes of Kensington by a clear mile.
Along with this significant growth, the people of Hackney have seen an improvement in education, homes and an all-round better lifestyle, making it one of the most popular places to live in London!
Speaking of, Londonewcastle is working with London Borough of Hackney on a couple of exciting projects in the area. Why don’t you take a little peak…http://themakersshoreditch.com/
