We take a look the newest piece of iconic street art in East London, get excited over the prospect of Caravan coming to Fitzrovia. Plus, we give you an insight into our Crystal Maze experience.

East London's Colossal New Art Mural

Here at Londonewcastle, scouring the city for new artistic masterpieces is one of our favourite pastimes, so when we found out about this giant and iconic masterpiece in East London by Ben Eine, we were very excited indeed!

Measuring the size of approximately 700 double-decker buses, street artist Ben Eine has lived up to his name by creating a mural on the ground of an industrial space in East London, a mural so large that the only viable way for him to check his progress throughout was by drone footage.

This piece of street art, spanning a colossal 17,500 square meters, illustrating the word ‘CREATE’ involved a lot of artistic material, and I mean A LOT. 2,850 litres of recycled paint, 18-inch wide rollers and a 200-litre bathtub for mixing purposes, to be exact.

Eine’s passion for art and creating something out of the ordinary shines through this mural: ‘I love to paint and beautify the most unexpected of places – I’ve painted everything from doorways to trains but have always wanted to do something really huge and different.’ Huge and different is exactly what he’s managed to do in my opinion, in fact I think it’s an understatement!

Caravan Comes to Fitzrovia

This laid-back, Aussie-inspired café has made quite the name for itself throughout London; great coffee, a more-ish menu and a slice of Australian sunshine is what is keeping diners coming back for more. So much so that four branches just isn't enough and Fitzrovia was missing out on the Caravan action.

Whether you are after a superior cup of coffee or a brunch to remember, every Londoner should visit Caravan at least once. Stand out brekkies on the menu are by far the Coconut Bread with Lemon Curd Cream Cheese and Rhubarb and for a more savoury option, their Baked Eggs are some of the best that London can offer!

Anyway…as the LN office is based in Fitzrovia, the prospect of having a Caravan nearby to us at some point this year is sweet music to our ears.

LN Does The Crystal Maze

We all know it, we all love it and we all can’t keep our feet still when we hear that iconic theme tune, whether we like to admit it or not! Of course when a slot at The Crystal Maze in Angel became available, the team at Londonewcastle were there in a flash. Here’s an overview of what we thought.

The first challenge, which could quite possibly be the most difficult of the whole experience is coming up with a team name. With a few of us being on the blue team, it was only natural that we called ourselves ‘LondonBLUEcastle’…see what we did there? After the stressful task of team name deliberations it was time for the games to begin. Be prepared for a lot of ‘unnecessary running’ to music and time travel.

Whether you like getting physical, cracking mysteries and puzzles or showing off your mad skills, there will be a challenge for you. Now, I’m not going to give away any spoilers but helmet-wearing and getting sandy are all part of the parcel when taking on The Crystal Maze.

If you’re wondering, then yes, you do get to jump around in the giant crystal at the end and try and grab as many flying golden tickets as possible with stressful music playing…it’s great!

Word of Warning: Stick to the rules because however sneaky and sly you think you are, you will be caught and disqualified!
