Westminster City Council has announced the panel of developers which it will appoint to carry out works for its housing regeneration programme over the next four years.
Bouygues Development/ Londonewcastle are among eight developers that have been appointed to the council’s development framework panel and will compete for projects in Westminster’s four renewal areas of Tollgate Gardens, Church Street, Westbourne Green and Ebury Bridge.
The panel will tender for projects in Westminster which have a value of more than £400m.
The agreement has also included an option for Tri-Borough partners Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington and Chelsea to also use the panel, which if taken, could see the total value of all works rise to as much as £900m.
Over 1,000 affordable new homes will be created under Westminster’s housing renewal plan, spread across five estates, in four renewal areas.
There will also be extensive public realm improvements made in and around the housing renewal areas, as well as the creation of employment opportunities for local people.
Cllr Jonathan Glanz, Westminster City Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, said:
“We have chosen to work with eight developers who have a proven track record in delivering high quality homes and open spaces in areas with a similar urban environment to Westminster.
“In appointing this panel, the council will avoid long-winded and costly tendering processes for each project, which would inevitably prove more expensive for taxpayers and cause long delays to the works getting underway.
“We are committed to providing more affordable housing, better homes, improved public spaces and new economic opportunities in Westminster, and I am glad that in appointing this panel, we have taken a significant step in achieving that aim through this renewal programme.”
