Londonewcastle Street Art Project
Jan 15 2010
As part of a London wide arts project in collaboration with the Lazarides Gallery entitled Grifters, Londonewcastle are offering up sites in our portfolio to be used as ‘canvases’ for an array of street artists from across the globe.
Londonewcastle actively promote, facilitate and curate creative art exhibitions through our Londonewcastle Project Space, which is housed in a former printing factory in Shoreditch. This involvement has now spread outside of the project space and we’re proud to be able to help bring art to the public in interesting and accessible ways.
As part of the exhibition artists such as David Choe, Charlie Isoe, Vhils and Lucy McLauchlan carried out their works on buildings, hoardings and brick walls in and around some of Londonewcastle’s developments.
The works can be viewed at the following sites:
David Choe: 1-3 Wenlock Road, N1
Charlie Isoe: Prestwood Street, N1
Vhils: 30 Oval Road, NW1
Lucy McLauchlan: 89 St Johns Hill, SW11
Wenlock Road Graffiti Project
Nov 16 2009
Londonewcastle is continuing to support creative and artistic talent throughout London, not only by staging exhibitions at the Londonewcastle Project Space but also by offering some of our sites to the world’s most renowned street artists. Channel 4 filmed the process of 4 graffiti artists creating intriguing works of street art that transformed a building on Wenlock Road, London. The site will eventually be developed but until then we wanted to put the space to good use and help to create something uplifting and exciting for the area. Britain's Best Emerging Interior Designer 2008
Earlier this year, Londonewcastle, in association with 100% Design, idFX and BIDA, launched the inaugural competition to find Britain's most exciting and promising emerging interior designer. Entrants were asked to develop interior design concepts for a fictitious client.
Linda decided to blend organic materials with synthetics and sharp, strong lines with curvier shapes to create a masculine, confident interior that has an instant impact. Linda is a 25 year old Interior Design student at London Metropolitan University.
As part of her prize, Londonewcastle re-created her winning design at this year's 100% design exhibition (18-21 September 2008). Linda's design was featured in the 100% Futures section of the Earls Court exhibition and was visited by over 40,000 people.
Best Emerging Interior Designer 2008
Jun 18 2008
The inaugural competition to find Britain's Best Emerging Interior Designer came to its climax this week with the judging panel deliberating over the final 6 short listed entrants. After 3 hours of discussions the judging panel emerged with a unanimous decision:
Congratulations to LINDA BORONKAY whose design captured the judges' imagination and had reflected a strong understanding of the client brief. Linda's winning concept instilled a strong sense of design, aesthetic thought and unique detailing that lifted her entry above the competition.
Linda Boronkay will be named as Britain's Best Emerging Interior Designer at the prestigious 100% Design Awards held in London in September 2008. Her winning design will be on display at the 2008, 100% Design Exhibition in London's Earls Court. Linda is a 25 year old Interior Design student at London Metropolitan University.
Londonewcastle will be providing Linda with an exhibition space in order for her to re-create elements of her winning design for an estimated 30,000 visitors to view over the 4 day exhibition.
Applicants were judged by a prestigious panel from the design world and related industries, judges included Robert Soning and Rohan Ames (Londonewcastle), Ruth Ayahudin and Peter Massey (100% Design), Fiona Naylor (Johnson Naylor) Lori Pinkerton-Rolet (BIDA), Kate Burnett (idFX) and Tom Dixon. The numerous entries were whittled down to a shortlist of six back in April and finally to the winner.
The overall quality of the short listed entries was exceptional and all short listed entrants should be commended; the judging panel were enthusiastic and complimentary of the competition:
Robert Soning, Londonewcastle , said 'The aim of this competition was to draw out undiscovered design talent, to give someone a lucky break. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the level of entry we received and of course absolutely delighted with the winner.'
"The field of entries was extremely large for this prestigious award, and the creative approaches to the brief varied greatly. We saw some really new and exciting concepts but the winning entry really stood out to the entire judging panel as fresh, classy, inventive." Lori Pinkerton-Rolet, BIDA, IIDA, Chairman
'This fantastic competition recognises and rewards the up-and-coming talent in residential interior design. This is an industry that is notoriously difficult to break into, so what could be a better prize than a showcase in the year's most exciting event, 100% Design? As a profession, interior design is gaining both momentum and credibility, so it is really gratifying that we can offer a chance to shine to a new generation of interior designers.' Kate Burnett, idFX
"Londonewcastle's new award is ground breaking since it provides a rare opportunity for fresh interior design talent to really shine and be critiqued by their peers and global press. 100% Design is pleased to be associated with the award, since it provides further emphasis on the wealth of world beating interior design talent that is based in London and the UK in general. We are positive that the winning installation itself will inspire and wow our expected audience of 30,000 designers and 1,500 press". Peter Massey, Exhibition Director, 100% Design & 100% Detail.

In Association with Max Wigram Gallery
Jun 05 2008
Max Wigram Gallery in Association with Londonewcastle are pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Marinne Hugonnier.
Since 2001 Hugonnier's practice has reconsidered the phenomenal world as a cultural construct, exploring how our visual apprehension of it is subject to ideological, political and physical positioning. In this show photography, film and works on paper are presented within the broader systems of signification drawn from her anthropological studies. This exhibition weaves together journeys – through literary images, geographical locations, the history of a given artwork, or to the origin of a cinematic style.
