The title of this joint exhibition was a deliberate choice, facilitating the aesthetic diversity of three very different artists, kindred in spirit but stylistically opposed in their response to a common theme. United by their differences, Hannah French, Inigo Rousham and Mike Coleman are all art teachers and graduated from Goldsmiths together. Their subject matter is predominately urban concerning people, location and place and in the absence of any formal compatibility their work lends focus to the subjective nature of the creative process which is always personal and inextricably linked to the individuality of perception.
The title also infers that things change and not always by design and so the exhibition endeavours to explore the consequential nature of things, the outcome, the result or the reaction to something that has previously happened. That something is an external force, unforeseen, unpredictable involving time, exposure or an event which changes everything, an ‘altered state’ which was not intended.
