Working in collaboration with renowned choreographer Russell Maliphant in response to his full-length work of contemporary dance “The Rodin Project”, Du Preez & Thornton Jones have created a new body of work entitled EREBUS, inspired in part by the work of Auguste Rodin, which includes as it’s centrepiece a new film installation of the same name.
‘The Rodin Project’ has been visually explored and interpreted by Du Preez & Thornton Jones through a variety of mediums, and is characterised by the common purveyance of the unique visual approach to flow and energy, and the relationship between movement, light, music, dynamics and form. The future/past philosophy behind artists Du Preez & Thornton Jones informs levels of the fantasy, abstraction and symbolism, that resonate mystery and challenge the notions of beauty.
Their subconscious homage to classicism and surrealism convey the pair’s vision of ‘dreams in reality’ as they push the boundaries in this new film exploring the emotion of the visual narrative and juxtaposition of soundscape possibilities, transporting the viewer into anemotional immersive sound & visual experience.
EREBUS was created with support from the Arts Council England.
