In 2013, London College of Fashion (LCF) will be showcasing the work of its final year students graduating from a diverse range of disciplines, at a series of events designed to present their final collections and projects to selected audiences.
Two exhibitions, a catwalk show, and series of industry events will feature the work of successfully selected students, as part of the LCF Graduate Season, which will run throughout the final two weeks of June. Based on the success of last year’s East London events, LCF has chosen to run it’s entire series of undergraduate showcases at venues in the Shoreditch area, in the vicinity of the college’s Curtain Road site.
At the Londonewcastle Project Space, LCF proposes to showcase a combined exhibition of work from both the Schools of Design and Media, which will include footwear, accessories, jewellery, fashion design, photography, fashion illustration, styling and short films within a curated exhibition.
During the same period a catwalk show will take place at Spitalfields Market, with a simultaneous exhibition of performance work at nearby Factory 7 on Hearn Street.
THE EXHIBITION
Work will be selected from the very best graduating students from the two schools, resulting in an estimated 100 – 150 pieces to be shown across a variety of printed, digital and 3-dimensional media alongside physical exhibits. Students are encouraged to work with tutors to explore interesting and non-traditional modes of display where possible, resulting in a varied and exciting showcase. Curators work with the courses to help promote the vision of each subject area, overseen in its entirety by the Events Manager, to ensure a coherent and visually stimulating exhibition.
The graduate exhibitions attract a good public and industry audience, and are usually listed in Time Out and other online media.
EVENTS
During the exhibition a series of events will be staged, including a private view for each school with audiences of relevant industry guests;events which year-on-year attract a wide range fashion industry and high profile guests, opinion formers, educational peers, press and other media contacts. A focused industry networking event will also be held with a view to securing employment for graduates and placements for future students.
Events for potential students, including open day presentations, progression days for internal students and introductory events for teenagers are also regularly incorporated into the programme, to encourage an educational perspective.
