Gérard Rancinan is one of the world’s leading contemporary fine art photographers. For the past 7 years, Rancinan along with writer Caroline Gaudriault have been developing the ‘Trilogy of the Moderns’ – a revolution in three acts.
Pitched somewhere between comedy and tragedy, this vivid photographic tableau and accompanying texts paint a picture of a confused humanity, blindly groping in the darkness, obsessed with fame and guided only by an absolute desire for generalised happiness.
In May 2012 Rancinan will take over the Museum of Contemporary Art to present the entire trilogy of works; ‘Metamorphoses, Hypotheses and A Wonderful World’ at the Triennale di Milano in Italy.
In June 2012 The Future Tense in association with Opera Gallery and Londonewcastle will for the first time in the UK present the final series, ‘A Wonderful World’ consisting of 15 large format works. The show will also create an environment within the gallery space that gives the feeling of being a part of the images as a fully functioning studio will be installed.
During the opening weeks of the show, visitors will be invited to take part via ‘audition’ in the 16th and final composition in the ‘A Wonderful World’ series which in turn will conclude the entire ‘Trilogy of the Moderns’.
Once the shoot is complete, post-production will take place within the gallery studio, allowing the public to act as voyeurs, peeking behind the scenes at the processes which result in the images they see around them. Finally the image will be printed, mounted and hung in the main gallery space.
