Gallery 46 in Whitechapel is our new sister gallery to be used as Londonewcastle Project Space. The new space, established through the partnership of Martin J Tickner and Sean McLusky and Fruitmachine founders, Martin Bell & Wai Hung Young breaks fresh ground for the open-source, non-conformist curatorial approach Tickner and McLusky employed at their (rightly) notorious MEN Gallery, in Shoreditch.Housed in a pair of newly renovated Georgian houses in the grounds of Whitechapel Hospital, GALLERY 46 is set over 3 floors and 8 rooms and is a kaleidoscopic addition to Whitechapel’s burgeoning gallery scene and close by its artistic...→

**Popin' Pete's Pop Shop** is a pop up festival of hip hop culture featuring the world famous Popin’ Pete (Electric Boogaloos, USA). Building on the success of the 2013 Pop Shop at Box Park, it’s back and is bigger than ever!
Along with dance workshops from American artist Popin’ Pete, Scanner’s Inc. will be taking some of the top British Hip Hop artists into the heart of East London. DJ Biznizz (Tha En4cers) representing British Hip Hop since the early ‘80s spinning hip hop classics and everything else in between. Artwork by London’s Mr Dane (Vop Stars) will transform the empty Londonewcastle Project Space into a vibrant, funky location. Poppers Dickson Mbi (Fiya House Crew, Russell Maliphant Dance company) and Vicky ‘Skytilz’ Mantey (Boy Blue Entertainment) will be dancing up a storm alongside Pete himself.
This is a space takeover! Animating a 3,000 square foot gallery with workshops, art, DJs and parties for the whole family.
To support as many young people and dancers as possible to take part we are offering a Travel Bursary, enabling dancers from outside London to be able to travel to London to take part.
The Pop Shop workshop formula is also touring to DanceXchange, Birmingham and Bam Bam Boogies Studio, Essex.
Kate Scanlan, Scanner’s Inc comments:
*“Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop is pure positivity and I’m delighted that its back for 2014. We’re back bigger than before with more artists, workshops and a 3000 square foot space to transform. Throughout the project there will be opportunities to learn, share and have fun with the dance. We are also doing workshops in Birmingham with DanceXchange and in Essex with Bam Bam Boogies Studio. That combined with our travel bursaries means that we can reach a lot of young people and dancers in the UK.”*
Popin' Pete, Electric Boogaloos:
*“I am very excited about this year’s Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop, seeing that last year was so good. I know this year is going to be even better, I love teaching the youth and giving back to the community. I'll also be doing workshops in Birmingham and Essex. Let's get the UK popping.”*
Popin’ Pete’s Pop Shop is conceived and produced by Scanner’s Inc in association with East London Dance, Londonewcastle Project Space, Hackney Council, and JACK.
It is funded by Arts Council England with support from Young Hackney.
