Londonewcastle has been creating award-winning developments in the capital for three decades. But in 2008 the property landscape started to change. Today while we continue to develop assets for private investors, more and more opportunities begin in the public sector. A new world needs a new kind of developer, one who unlocks the potential for an unprecedented cast of stakeholders and also for the places it seeks to change.

We understand this new complexity. We know how to bring together the players, both public and private; how to manage the processes, politics and personalities; and how to strike up winning relationships. At the same time our commitment to the quality of the end product – beautiful homes - is undiminished. Our choices in architecture and design are always bespoke, our sales & marketing skills fine tuned, while the growing scale of projects only deepens the personal connection everyone of us has with our work. David Barnett

Founder and CEO

Co-founder of the business and over 30 years’ experience in high-end London residential and mixed use property and its development. Prior to the launch of Londonewcastle, working for the likes of Druce & Co, Lassman, and John Black’s pre-Galliard Homes company, David secured deals with Lehmann Brothers, Chelsfield Partners, HBoS and Rugby Estates.

Robert Soning

Founder and COO

Co-founder of the business and over 25 years’ experience in developing mixed use residential-led properties within London. He leads the day-to-day operations of the company, in particular shaping its ongoing creative vision and brand development, and sales and marketing of new developments. Robert is also co-chairman of the Roundhouse Gala Committee and heads fundraising for one of Europe’s most famous music venues.

Chris Phillips


Chris brings more than 35 years’ experience of the international corporate finance, real estate and environmental sectors of chairing listed companies on the London and European Stock Exchanges. As Managing Director of Colliers Capital UK Ltd (Colliers CRE property fund), he was responsible for developing its residential consultancy business. In addition to his position at Londonewcastle, Chris is also Non-Executive Chairman of Places for People (the UK’s leading registered social landlord) and a member of the Octopus Healthcare Advisory Board.

Baerbel Schuett

Development Director

Baerbel’s career spans over 30 years in the construction industry in various roles around global locations. Having worked in London for 18 years and over a decade of this time has been with Londonewcastle. Over her career, she has built an extensive network within the professional consultancy world, where she is now regarded as a leader in her field.

Baerbel has assembled a highly skilled team within the in-house development management department, which she oversees on day-to-day basis. Furthermore, being a qualified architect ensures she never loses sight of good design in each and every one of her projects. Responsible for handling all complex schemes, guiding them through each stage of delivery, whilst involving a fully collaborative approach across all disciplines.

James Shindler


James has worked for Londonewcastle for over 20 years and specialises in strategic master planning and asset management of mixed-use schemes.

His key successes are managing Londonewcastle’s Chiswick High Road development through challenging times in 2008, securing planning and its subsequent sale.

Furthermore, James and his team have recently delivered one of the best planning consents in East London for a development in Barking, which will see the regeneration of a Nineties shopping mall. It will deliver a host of new opportunities for local businesses and organisations, simultaneously extending existing green space for the local community. Plans include the provision of a new hotel, 200,000 sq ft of retail space and 850 new homes.

Vijay Vijaishankar

Finance Director

Vijay has worked for Londonewcastle for over 11 years. His career spans 20 years in the finance industry including a position as Head of Finance for a leading UK Fashion Designer. He has a wealth of experience in strategic financial management and of running medium size businesses.

Vijay leads the finance team at Londonewcastle and is involved in negotiations and agreements with suppliers; having achieved many successful outcomes which contribute to funding the growth of the company through cash flow management. He has played a key role in managing the financial elements of historic company restructuring processes. He often deals with UK financial institutions in relation to securing senior debt facilities for many of the company's development projects.
